Our love of the Dachshund Breed began in early 1998 shortly after my husband and
I moved to Texarkana,Texas. My husband and I have always loved animals and
always knew that we would have plenty of dogs and other animals around. My
husband went to the store one day with our boys and brought me back the cutest
little English Setter puppy. We all fell in love with her and named her Cookie.
Two weeks after we got Cookie she woke up one morning and was deathly sick. We
did everything we knew to do for her and finally after nothing worked we took
her to the vet. We thought that she had caught parvo from the way she was
acting. To our surprise after the vet looked at her he said that she had been
born with a bleeding ulcer and was bleeding to death. He said that we could
give her a blood transfusion but it wouldn't help her as she was already too far
gone and that he thought it was best to have her put to sleep. So after
many tears and talking with my husband we both felt that it was best to have
her put to sleep rather than let her suffer any longer. This was the first time that
either one of us had to do this and it crushed me. All I did was cry for 2 days
and my husband assured me that he would find me another puppy. A couple weeks
after this happened my husband called me from work and said that someone
in the paper was giving away a 8 month old Male Mini Dachshund. He had been
fixed and was up to date on all shots, my husband asked me if I wanted
to go look at him. So at lunch he came home and we went to look at this Mini
Dachshund. I had no clue what a Mini Dachshund looked like I thought that it was
a Hush Puppy. Boy was I ever wrong. LOL ...I remember when we first got there the
first thought that came to my mind was boy is he ugly. LOL ... My husband and my
little girl fell in love so I told my husband that we would take him. So we
loaded Hercules up in the car and took him home. My husband dropped us off and
he went back to work. Later that afternoon I was folding clothes and I went to
get our daughter something to drink and when I came back Hercules had taken all
of my washcloths that I had folded and was playing with them. At that moment he
stole my heart and I was HOOKED! I knew then that I would never be without a
Dachshund. He soon took over our house and we were his PETS! Since then we have
many dachshunds and they are all just as spoiled as Hercules is and think that
they own us. I hope that you enjoy looking at our website and remember that your
life is never complete without the love of a wonderful pet.
